Vegemite vs. Marmite
I recently learned to like Vegemite, which is very popular in Australia. I decided to try it's cousin, Marmite, which is more popular in New Zealand and England. The flavor of Vegemite reminds me of yeast, salt, and mushroom, with a bit of carrot and onion. It's a very strong flavor, so it's understandable that the serving size on the package is only 5 grams. Marmite tastes to me like someone took Vegemite and added a huge amount of caramelized onions. The flavor is much smoother and a bit sweeter. It has a slightly larger serving size at 8 grams, and I agree that you should use that much more of it. It would likely appeal to a broader audience than Vegemite. Both of them are good, in their own ways. Both of them are good on buttered toast, especially with a slice of cheese on top.
